General Flypaper Questions
Q
Is Flypaper, a first-class software application, really Free?
A
Yes. Flypaper is really great software, and it really is free.
And it’s not just the software that’s free. All the Models you see in the Flypaper Model Community are free. Flypaper users also get 100MB of free hosting of their Flypaper Stories on flypaper.net so they can easily share their content on the Web.
So what’s the catch? No catch. We want you to use Flypaper to create incredible Web content and presentations, and tell your friends and co-workers about it. The more people see what is created with Flypaper, the more they talk about us and try it themselves. We can’t buy that kind of publicity.
Q
So how does Flypaper make money if the software is free?
A
Flypaper Studio has a thriving business creating impressive marketing and training content for large and small clients for a lot less than they used to pay. Since we use Flypaper ourselves, everything we create is editable and reusable by our clients, which eliminates the headaches to update content when things change. Of course, you can do it all yourself with Flypaper, but if you have other things to do in your business, we can help.
Also, later this year, we'll be offering premium online hosting services for Flypaper content, an affordable Pro version of our software, and a marketplace of Models, Stories, Flash components and media for Flypaper users to buy and sell ready-made Flypaper content that will help them create incredible content quickly while saving a fortune.
Q
Who can use Flypaper?
A
Flypaper was specifically designed for anyone to use – without the need for any technical, programming or design expertise. Flypaper gives users the power of Flash to help everyone tell high impact Stories for live presentations or web-based delivery.
Q
Do I need to be a Flash programmer to use Flypaper?
A
Absolutely not. Flypaper was designed with everyday users in mind as the components and Models do the hard work for you. All you need is your own Story to tell. Flash technology is used within Flypaper, but you don’t need to have Flash skills or own a copy of Flash to use Flypaper.
If you are a Flash programmer, you can focus on using Flypaper to create components and Models, expedite interactive development projects and prototyping, and allow your clients to make their own updates to interactive content when needed (when they download the free Flypaper software themselves).
Q
What is meant by public beta?
A
A “public beta" is a version of Flypaper that is available for public testing before the final version of the product is released. Through public testing, Flypaper can evaluate how the product is performing and have the opportunity to collect valuable feedback from users to continually improve and add features and functionality. We want you to tell us what you like and don’t like about the product, and report any problems to us directly through the
feedback form and discussion
Forums .
Q
Will this cost me anything?
A
The software and registration are entirely free, and so are the professionally designed Models that you download from the Web site to get started right away. Flypaper will continue to add new, free Models to the gallery on the Web site, and soon offer affordable, premium Models.
Additional Flypaper services are available for additional fees to those who are looking for a little extra help. Check out the
Flypaper Services area for more information.
Q
What are possible uses for Flypaper?
A
Flypaper has an endless variety of uses for either live presentations or Web-based content. Use Flypaper to engage your next audience, meeting, interview, training session or to make an impact at an event. Or, simply use it to impress friends and family with cool Stories. The possibilities are yours to make.
Q
How much can I modify pages that have been created with Models?
A
Unlike templates, Models offer more flexibility and customization options to be modified in many different ways. Any item on the page can be rotated, resized, timed in and out, and changed to alter the transition effects and opacity (transparent alpha value). You can change the borders and gradients of any shape, and most elements give you options to change colors, fonts, text sizes and a myriad of other properties. You can even copy pre-programmed pieces of one Model and paste them into other Models to duplicate the functionality. Add and remove as much or as little content as you like, change the look completely, put in your own content. Create and share your own Models.
Q
Does this support SCORM standards for e-learning for use with our Learning Management System (LMS)?
A
Flypaper Stories published as e-Learning are SCORM 1.2 and above compliant. They include the “initialize” and “finish” calls to the LMS. Scoring, interaction tracking and objectives are planned for future releases.
Q
What can Flash developers do with Flypaper?
A
Flash developers are invited to join the Flypaper economy and sign up to be a certified developer. You can showcase your interactive portfolio by creating your own Flypaper Models, and grow your business as a certified Flypaper partner to support custom projects through the Flypaper Studio services business.
